4.Ll Minutes of April tl, 1996 approved as submiffed by the Commission.
4.1.2 Request for Two Green Zones at 839C Hinckley Road
Mr. Dellaway had no problem with this request. Comm. Amoroso asked
if there were spaces in the rear of the building. There were. It was moved
and seconded (Comm. Mayer/Preger) to approve this request; approved by
the Commission by a 4-l vote, Comm. Amoroso opposed.
4.2 DISCUSSION ITEMS.
4.2.t Request for Removal of A11 Parking Prohibitions on the South Side of the
1100 Block of Carmelita Avenue
From the floor, petitioner Timothy Birch provided a diagram of the north
and south side of this block explaining that from 7 to 9 8.h., Mon.-Fri.,
no parking is available on the entire block. This street accommodates
courmute traffic morning and evening. Sgt. Haseleu advised
Carmelita/California is one of the most dangerous corners in the city, and
the parking prohibitions are necessary to prevent accidents. It was moved
and seconded (Comm.Mayer/Amoroso) to make this an Action item. It was
then moved and seconded (Comm. Mayer/Preger) to deny this request;
unanimously approved by the Commission.
4.2.2 Request for Several Traffic Signs for 226 Lorton Avenue
From the floor, petitioner Ms. Sharabianlou explained that her driveway,
which is connected to Radio Shack's, is used as a thoroughfare for vehicles
coming from Hatch Lane (at the rear) and vehicles making u-turns on
Lorton Avenue. She is concerned about public safety and wants permission
to post a Do Not Enter sign for Hatch [,ane traffic and a One-Way sign for

Lorton Avenue traffic. Comm. Amoroso noticed there are a lot of parking
spaces for this business. Discussion ensued as to whether signs should be
posted on public or private property. The petitioner clarified that she is
asking for a permit to post signs on private property. Mr. Dellaway
referred her to the Building Department for permits for private property.
It was moved and seconded (Comm. Mayer/Amoroso) to recommend to the
owner to obtainpermits from the Building Deparffnent for private property;
unanimously approved by the Commission.
4.2.3 Request for Red Zone at 11 Guiuard Road
Sgt. Haseleu advised that Guittard Chocolate container trucks park there for
about two days whenever their property can't accommodate them. Mr.
Dellaway suggested this be made a Discussion item again next month and
will contact the petitioner to request they appear at the meeting for further
review.
5. INACTTVE ITEMS.
5.1 Peninsula Avenue Crosswalk at Stanley Road
Since no further response has been received from the Shopping Center or the City
of San Mateo and that they will not share any expense for this crosswalk, it was
moved and seconded (Comm. Mayer/Preger) to remove this item from the Agenda;
unanimously approved by the Commission.
6. NEW BUSINESS.
6.1 Request for Stop Sign on Carmelita Avenue at Capuchino Avenue
Mr. Dellaway advised that Capuchino is a one-way street, and this intersection
doesn't warrant Stop signs on Carmelita. Also, the intersection is too close to El
Camino Real. Sgt. Haseleu advised that the City has already installed a 20-foot red
zorle atthe corner to enhance visibility for those turning left from the left side of
Capuchino. Also, a Police officer suggested adding a Height Limit sign. Mr.
Dellaway stated that the City Attorney is reviewing the ordinance regarding Height
Limit signs since the City's signs state "No Vehicles Over 5 Feet" and the State
Code recommends "No Vehicles Over 6 Feet." The Height Limit signs on
California at Oak Grove were removed. Comm. Evans recommended sending a
letter to the nearby businesses to advise of the rulmg when issued by the City
Attorney.

Commission.
