I 4.2 I 2 3 4 Traflic, Safety and Parking Commission Minutes March 14, 1996 CALL TO ORDER. 7:00 p.m. by Vice Chairman Evans. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG. Vice Chairman Evans. ROLL CALL. 4 of 7 Commissioners present. CI]RRENT BUSINESS. 4.1 ACTION ITEMS. 4.1. I Minutes of February 8, 1996 approved as submitted by the Commission. DISCUSSION ITEMS. 4.2.1 Request for Red Zone on Cowan Road at 1849 Bayshore Boulevard Mr. Dellaway stated that ttrc petitioner is asking for a red zone adjacent to their Cowan driveways to allow for safer exiting. It was moved and seconded (Comm. SimonettilAmoroso) to move this to an Action item; unanimously approved by the Commission. It was then moved and seconded (Comm. Simonetti/Preger) to approve a red zone as requested; unanimously approved by the Commission. 4.2.2 Request for Traffic Study of Peninsula Avenue Crosswalk at Stanley Road From the floor, Mr. Dellacasa stated he has seen many speeding cars go through this crosswalk and wishes something could be done to make it safer. Comm. Evans recommended staffls suggestion to pursue talks with San Mateo and the shopping c€nter in San Mateo where the crosswalk conn@ts and follow up next month to see what they might contribute ad that this commission may consider recommending to Council to approve installation of the beacons. a Mr. Dellaway advised that the City of San Mateo's written response to share half the cost of installing beacons at this crosswalk was negative (total cost is $14,000). Mr. Dellaway stated that this crosswalk is hazardous because of its proximity to the Delaware signals, the speed of traffic, and the left turn lanes where autos can block the view of pedestrians. Discussion followed about the cost. 5 6 Traflic, Safety and Parking Commission Minutes March 14, 1996 4.2.3 Request for "Not A Through Street" Sign at Entrance to Hayward Court Following a brief discussion, it was moved and seconded (Comm. Simonetti/Amoroso) to move this to an Action item; unanimously approved by the Commission. It was then moved and seconded (Comm. Simonetti/heger) to install a "Not A Through Street" sign at Hayward Court entrance; unanimously approved by the Commission. 4.2.4 Request for Removal of the Two Newly Placed 2-Hour Parking Limit Signs on Paloma Avenue Sgt. Haseleu recommended removing the signs since there have been no complaints. Mr. Dellaway will send a letter to the residents advising that we have again considered this request and since no complaints were received, consideration will be made at the next mseting to rernove the signs. This will be an Action item next month. INACTMITEMS. None. NEW BUSINESS. 6.1 Request for Two Green Zones at 839C Hinckley Road 7. INFORMATION ITEMS. 7.1 It was announced that Comm. Karp has resigned from this commission. 8. FROMTHEFLOOR. 8.1 Mr. Dellacasa advised that a truck on his block has been parked for over 72 hours and should be removed. Sgt. Haseleu stated he will advise his deparunent at roll call. 9. ADIOURNMENT. 7:20p.m. -3- Petitioner was not present. After a brief discussion, this was recommended to be a Discussion item next month.
