6.1 Request to Set Parking Time Limitation on East Side of California Drive North of
Oak Grove Avenue
Mr. Dellaway advised that this request is aimed at getting rid of vans and trailers
left for a period of time and to allow the Police to monitor, tag and tow those
vehicles parked for over 72 hours. Mr. Dellaway suggested setting a lO-hour
parking limit. Sgt. Tokarski stated there have been no accidents due to the large
trucks and trailers parking here. A lO-hour period is difficult to enforce since the
parking enforcers don't work such hours. It was moved and seconded (Comm.
Mayer/Harber) to move this to an Action Item now. It was then moved and
seconded (Comm. Mayer/Harber) to adopt staffs recommendation to put up 10-
hour parking limit signs. Chairman Evans stated this area isn't a problem and sees
no need to put up any signs. Comm. Mayer withdrew his motion. It was then
moved and seconded (Comm. Simonetti/Preger) to make this an lnactive Item until
more complaints are received. Unanimously approved by the Commission.
Request to Change Parallel Parking to Vertical @erpendicular) Parking on East
Side of North Carolan Avenue
Sgt. Tokarski advised this area has a parking problem due to the many auto shops
and auto sales tactics of parking cars in the street for several days at a time. The
Police actively monitor and tag this area. Perpendicular parking doesn't seem to
be the answer,
a
Traffic Safety and Parking Commission Minutes November 13,1997
From the floor, the petitioner stated that the worst part of the problem comes from
Corporation Yard employees parking in the street. She also agrees that
perpendicular parking is not a good idea since it would make the street more
narrow. Mr. Dellaway advised that City employees are not the cause of the
problem. The many auto shops, etc. are the cause. Sgt. Tokarski will take a new
approach to this problem via the auto dealer's City permit to alleviate the parking
being taken up by cars for sale. It was moved and seconded (comm. Auran/
Simonetti) to move this to a Discussion Item next month. Unanimously approved
by Commission.
7. INFORMATION ITEMS.
7.t Sgt. Tokarski received complaints about the parking lot on Ralston and El Camino
Real not having adequate signage at the entrance stating that this is a pay lot. Mr.
Dellaway agreed to have signage installed upon receipt of a work order from the
Police Department.
Sgt. Tokarski stated that the 2-hour parking signs on the southeast corner of
Ralston and El Camino Real and on the southeast corner of Burlingame Avenue and
El Camino Real need to be replaced. Mr. Dellaway agreed to replace the signs
upon receipt of a work order.
Sgt. Tokarski requested a white zone for ambulance parking on the north side of
the 1100 block of Trousdale at a senior care center since there is rarely a space
available. Consequently, the ambulances double park at this location. Mr. Dellaway
advised that there is a yellow zone now. Sgt. Tokarski advised that the parking will
be monitored by the Police for illegal parking.
Comm. Simonetti asked if the H-Cap space will be removed from in front of the
former Plagmann's store on Burlingame Avenue. Mr. Dellaway advised it will
remain and another H-Cap space will be added at Starbuck's on Burlingame
Avenue.
Comm. Auran asked if their will be any traffic impact for Burlingame since the
next Decorator's Show House will be the Crosby Mansion on Jackling Drive in
Hillsborough since Jackling Drive goes into Burlingame. Sgt. Tokarski advised the
clientele will be shuttled from Skyline Blvd. so the impact will be minimal.
Comm. Mayer asked when the rubberized railroad crossings will be installed. Mr.
Dellaway advised the job is going to bid now but will not commence until after El
Nino.
