Sgt. Tokarski provided data from the radar survey performed at oak Grove
Avenue near Marin. Of 284 cars, 147 registered 25-30 mph, 11 were in
excess of 35 mph, and one registered 59 mph. Mr. Dellaway recommended
that the Police Department monitor this area since warrants are not met and
signs are clearly visible. From the floor, several attendees expressed their
concern for safety along oak Grove Avenue with so many snrdints crossing
for school during the week, and for sports on the weekends and at nightlCh. Evans stated larger 25 mph signs seem to be more effective and
recommended installation of several larger signs on Oak Grove. It was
moved and seconded (Comms. Mayer/preger) to recommend to Council to
install three-way Stop signs at the intersection of oak Grove Avenue and
Winchester Drive. Unanimously approved by the Commission.

Traffic Safety and Parking Commission Minutes October 9, 1997
Comm. Auran advised that the safety on Bayswater is in jeopardy with auto dealers
testing cars at 50 mph. From the floor, several attendees expressed their concern
for young children who must cross these streets walking to school. Howard and
Bayswater have become thoroughfare-type streets. One grammar school sfident in
the audience advised he must sometimes wait for up to 15 cars to go by before he
can safely cross at Bayswater and Arundel. Clients of an Arundel Road preschool
have problems crossing at Bayswater and Arundel.
Ch. Evans advised that the crosswalk on westbound Howard at Arundel is obscured
by trees and should be trimmed. It was moved and seconded (Comms.
Auran/Mayer) to make this an Action item immediately. It was then moved and
seconded (Comms. Auran/Mayer) to recommend to Council to install 4-way Stop
signs at the intersections of Howard Avenue and Anita Road and at Bayswater
Avenue and Arundel Road and to install enlarged speed limit signs on Howard
Avenue and to schedule the radar trailer for Howard Avenue. Unanimously
approved by the Commission.

7.1 Mr. Dellaway advised that Council suggested a handicap space be installed on
Burlingame Avenue at l-orton in front of Starbucks and to increase the time of the
loading zone at that location to 24 hours. Sgt. Tokarski advised of other
alternatives available for consideration.
7.2 Mr. Dellaway asked for the Commission's direction regarding Councilman Spinelli
asking that all vans, trailers and large vehicles parking on the east side of
California Drive north of Oak Grove Avenue be limited - possibly to 10 hours. The
Police Departrnent can't enforce the 72-hour parking limit since it is not residential.
This will be on the Agenda next month as New Business.
