ROLL CALL. 7 of 7 Commissioners present. CI]RRENT BUSINESS. 4.I ACTION ITEMS. 4.1.1 Minutes of June 12, 197, approved as submitted by the Commission 4.1.2 Request for Stop Sign on Oak Grove Avenue at Winchester Drive Mr. Dellaway advised that this intersection does not meet City criteria for a Stop sign; tlerefore, staff recommends denial of request. Sgt. Haseleu agreed. Commissioners discussed problems of speeders being mostly high school students. Item needs study during school term. Also providing more police patrol and possibly adding enlarged speed limit sign would slow them down. It was moved and seconded (Comm. Mayer/Amoroso) to recommend study be performed by staff and the Traffrc Sgt. in September during school to determine where Stop signs are needed and to hstall enlarged speed limit signs before school begins; unanimously approved by the Commission. 4.2 DISCUSSION ITEMS. 4.2.1 Make Recommendations for Either l- or 2-Hour Parking Meters on Burlingame Avenue and/or Side Streets Mr. Dellaway advised that Council will hold a public hearing on this issue. The merchants like l-hour parking on Burlingame Avenue, and Sgt. Haseleu stated it is less congested with l-hour parking. It was moved and seconded (Comm. Simonetti/Mayer) to recommend to Council to continue l-hour parking on Burlingame Avenue and allot 2-hour spaces to its side streets as needed; unanimously approved by the Commission. 5. INACTM ITEMS. None. -,, - Traffic Safety and Parking Commission Minutes July 10, 1997 6. NEWBUSINESS. 6.1 Request for 3-Way Stop Signs on Easton Drive at Columbus Avenue Fourteen residents of this area were present. This item does not meet all the City criteria for Stop signs. However, this intersection is near a school, speeds are above normal on Easton, and visibility is poor. Traffic Sgt. notes that speed is the problem and if Stop signs were installed, there is no crosswalk. Much discussion ensued. Comm. Mayer recommends that the trees be trimmed and if Stop signs installed, they be moved up. Mr. Dellaway recommends approving this request. It was moved and seconded (Comm. Auran/Amoroso) to move this to an Action item immediately; it was then moved and seconded (Comm. Auran/Mayer) to recommend to Council to install 3-way Stop signs and a crosswalk at this intersection; unanimously approved by the Commission. 6.2 Request for Vision Clearance Zone at l2l0 Floribunda Avenue Petitioner was present and spoke of lack of vision clearance and that there have been accidents. Sgt. Haseleu noted there have been no accidents at this location. This item will be moved to a Discussion Item for the next meeting. 7.
