PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG. l,ed by Comm. Simonetti. ROLL CALL. 7 of 7 Commissioners present. CURRENT BUSINESS. 4.1 ACTION ITEMS. 4.1.1 Minutes of May 8, 1997, approved as submitted by the Commission. 4.2 DISCUSSION ITEMS. 4.2.L Make Recommendations for Either 1- or 2-Hour Parking Meters on Burlingame Avenue and/or Side Streets Mr. Dellaway provided the Commissioners with a parking study from 1996. He recommended 2 hour parking on Burlingame Avenue and side streets and advised that Council will hold a hearing for merchants' input. Sgt. Haseleu suggested I hour parking for Burlingame Avenue to facilitate the current high firnover ofcars with 2 hour parking on the side streets and parking lots. It was moved and seconded (Comm. Mayer/Simonetti) to continue this item as a Discussion Item at the next meeting to allow time for the Commissioners to review the parking study; unanimously approved by the Commission. 4.2.2 Request for larger Speed Limit Signs and a Stop Sign on Oak Grove Avenue at Winchester Drive Petitioner was present and expressed concern for safety at this intersection's crosswalk since many Washington School students are being redirected to McKinley School next fall. The Stop sign request is more important than larger speed limit signs. Sgt. Haseleu advised he had placed the radar trailer there several times and that most speeders are high school students; also that Oak Grove is a thoroughfare from Rollins Road to Carolan with no Stop signs in bet'ween and that Winchester is a T-intersection. Mr. Dellaway agreed to bring a record of the warrants for this intersection to the next meeting. This will be an Action item next month. 2 5 4 5. INACTIVE ITEMS. None. 1 Traffic Safety and Parking Commission Minutes \ne 12, 1997 6. NEWBUSINESS. 6.1 Request for 3-Way Stop Signs at Floribunda Avenue and Primrose Road Petitioner was not present. After some discussion of this site and since there are not enough warrants to validate placement of a Stop sign here, it was moved and seconded (Comm. Mayer/Preger) to make this an Action item immediately and then moved and seconded (Comm. Mayer/Simonetti) to deny this request; unanimously approved by the Commission. 6.2 Request for One Way and No U-Turn Signs at 226 Lorton Avenue Petitioner was present and stated the parking lot is overly used and not by her customers. She has placed a One Way sign on the property three times, and it was removed three times. She is extremely concerned about traffic safety in this lot. Comm. Auran advised that this is a private lot and therefore not a public safety issue. Sgt. Haseleu advised the petitioner to call when someone is illegally parked there and the police will ticket them. Petitioner said she appreciated receiving the City Attomey's letter stating the City's position. It was moved and seconded (Comm. Simonetti/Mayer) to make this an Action item immediately and then moved and seconded (Comm. Simonetti/Mayer) to deny this request; unanimously approved by the Commission. 7. INFORMATION ITEMS. 7.1 Mr. Dellaway advised that the signals on Bayshore at Mahler, Stanton and Mitten Roads will be coordinated at 35 m.p.h. 7.2 Comm. Simonetti asked when Calhans will pave El Camino Real. Mr. Dellaway advised that at present they are only patching and paving will be in the near future. 7.3 Comm. Simonetti asked for the statrrs on the lot at El Camino ReaI and Burlingame Avenue. Mr. Dellaway discussed the potential ramp betrreen the lots and a vehicle access. He responded that the parking lot is currently in the design phase with construction several months away. 7.4 Comm. Simonetti asked for the status on the Safeway/lValgreens project at Howard Avenue and Primrose Road. Mr. Dellaway advised that there has been no recent submittals from Safeway and that the City is waiting on further sodies and planning. 8 9 ADJOT RNMENT. 7:45 p.m. -3- FROMTHEFLOOR. None.
