TRAFFIC SAFETY AI\D PARKING COMMISSION MII\UTES JLJLY 9, 1998
1. CALL TO ORDER. 7:00 p.m. by Chairman Auran.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG. Led by Ch. Auran.
ROLL CALL. 6 of 7 Commissioners present.
CURRENT BUSINESS.
4,1 ACTION ITEMS.
4.1.1 Minutes of May 14, L998, and June 11, 1998, were submitted and approved.
4.2 DISCUSSION ITEMS.
4.2.1 Staff Recommendation to Change Existing Loading Zone from 327 Lorton
Avenue to Donnelly Avenue
Mr. Ho explained his drawings which show the relocation of the yellow zone
to Donnelly and addition of a parking space on Lorton and removal of
abandoned parking meter posts in present loading zone. At present, Il Fornaio
management doesn't want to shorten the present yellow zone. Sgt. Tokarski
advised that this staff recommendation would be easier to enforce and would
improve deliveries which currently block traffic. Mr. Hopper explained that
this is really a benefit for Il Fornaio's deliveries but they need valet space
during lunch hours. Next week, they will be valet parking, lL:30-2;30, at
Southern Pacific property. They cannot use Ciry space for valet. It was moved
and seconded (Comms. Preger/Simonetti) to move this to an Action Item. It
was then moved and seconded (Comms. Evans/Simonetti) to accept staffs
recommendation to move existing loading zone from 327 Lortor^ Avenue to
Donnelly Avenue; unanimously approved by the Commission.
4.2.2 Request for Nine 2-Hour Parking Spaces at 900 Peninsula Avenue on Anita
Road and One Truck [,oading Zone
Applicant contacted staff and requested this item be continued to September as
a Discussion Item. It was moved and seconded (Comms. Simonetti/Harber) to
posQone this item to September; unanimously approved by the Commission.

\- 6. NEW BUSINESS
6.t
JULY 9,1998
Request for Height Limit Sign at 101 California Drive on South Side of Bayswater,
West of Driveway
Mr. Hopper advised that the problem is exiting the driveway. There are two parking
spaces, west of the driveway. A truck parks at this location often which blocks
visibility. This will be a Discussion Item next month.
6.2 Request for Two Disabled Parking Spaces at Our Lady of Angels School Gym,
Opposite 1320 Cortez Avenue
Due to the large audience, it was moved and seconded (Comms. Simonetti/Amoroso)
to move this to a Discussion Item immediately; unanimously approved by the
Commission. From the floor, Father Mahoney supported this request since members
of the Senior Social Club meet 34 times a month; and at present they must walk about
30 yards from the parking lot which is a hardship for many. From the floor, a
supporter asked if the gutter will also be repaired there. Mr. Hopper advised that staff
will add this item to the City's sidewalk repair program. Also, he stated there is an
existing white zone which would be adjacent but would present no problem" It was
moved and seconded (Comms. Amoroso/Simonetti) to move this to an Action Item
immediately. It was then moved and seconded (Comms. Amoroso/Evans) to approve
installation of two disabled parking spaces opposite 1320 Cortez; unanimously
approved by the Commission.
6.3 Request to Relocate Truck Parking on Adrian Road at Adrian Court
Petitioner, Mr. Lavenstein, stated there is no parking signage for 250 feet on the
freeway side of Adrian Road so trucks park there 24 hours a day. Sgt. Tokarski
explained the 72-hour limitation. Mr. Lavenstein stated that many of the trucks seem
to be used for advertising since they are clearly visible from southbound Highway
101. This will be a Discussion Item next month.
6.4 Request for Red Zone Extension at 1495 Sanchez Avenue
From the floor, Ms. Snyder (1433 Sanchez) stated that cars park oddly at this location
because of the existing red zone which leaves a shorter than average parking space.
As cars turn into this street from El Camino Real, many near misses occur. In a
related matter, Chairman Auran also received a letter from 1429 Sanchez for red
tipping of their driveway. This will be a Discussion Item next month.
7, INFORMATION ITEMS
Comm. Simonetti asked about the schedule for installing rubberized railroad crossings. Mr.
Ho advised that he will be coordinating with Redwood City which is the lead agency.

\- 8. FROMTHEFLOOR.
Don Cory of833 Alpine had several comments and concerns. (1) The "No Right Turn" from
Oak Grove Avenue onto El Camino Real should be eliminated since the visibility is better
with the new construction on the southeast corner. Comms. Amoroso and Auran explained
that the real issues supporting the need for this sign is that El Camino Real does not have a
parking lane here so merging is hazardous; also, this is in a school zorc. (2) Request for
reducing the width of the southbound lanes of California Drive at Oak Grove Avenue to
accommodate a right turn lane. Comm. Evans stated that staff will investigate the feasibility
of this request and suggested he send a letter stating his requests. (3) Since trucks can no
longer park on the east side of California Drive, six of them now park on Carolan near Linden
and Alpine. Sgt. Tokarski will enforce parking regulations and confirm that this is a
residential zone. The sergeant also suggested that residents call the P.D. to tag parking
violators.
