Mr. Ho advised that he will investigate to see tlat the zone is completed. 4.2 DISCUSSION ITEMS. None. 5. INACT[VE ITEMS. None. 6. NEWBUSINESS. 6.1 Request for Height Limit Sign at 1576 Rollins Road Mr. Ho reported that there are two driveways side by side at this site which are used interchangeably. South driveway site distance is limited for exiting due to parked vehicles on the south side; however, the north driveway's site distance is not limited. Therefore, Mr. Ho does not recommend removing parking spaces or limiting vehicle height since the north driveway has good site distance for exiting vehicles. It was moved and seconded (Comms. Evans/Mayer) to move this to an Action Item immediately . It was then moved and seconded (Comms . Evansi Simonetti) to deny this request. Unanimously approved by the Commission. 6.2 Request for Parking Restrictions at 1864 Rollins Road Mr. Ho reported that the driveway is 72 feet long which is used for entry and exit. Because of the length of the driveway, he does not recommend parking restrictions. It was moved and seconded (Comms. Evans/Simonetti) to make this an Action Item immediately. It was then moved and seconded (Comms. Evansi Simonetti) to deny this request. Unanimously approved by the Commission. -2- TRAFFIC SAFETY AND PARKING COMMISSION MINUTES June 10, 1999 Mr. Ho advised that this site's driveway has limited site distance when vans or pickups park nearby. Mr. Ho recommends No Parking signs at both ends of 21-foot curb and extending existing red zone three feet. It was moved and seconded (Comms. Evans/Simonetti) to make this an Action Item immediately. It was then moved and seconded (Comms. Evans/Simonetti) to install two No Parking signs and extend the existing red zone three feet as recommended by staff. Unanimously approved by the Commission. 6.4 Request for Traffic and Parking Control at ll51 Vancouver Avenue @oosevelt School) Per Mr. Ho, this request was prompted by a recent accident when a student was hit by a car in front of the school due to a double-parked car blocking the moving car's site. In the last 5 years for the three nearest intersections, Easton, Broadway and Carmelita at Vancouver, there have been only one accident each at Easton, at Carmelita, and two at Broadway. Mr. Ho recommends the following requested improvements: @ school crossing signs, @ speed limit signs, @ at Broadway/ Vancouver "Slow School Crossing" painted in yellow on pavement with advance "School" signs, and @ extend existing white zone to provide a solid 67 foot long zone. From the floor, Ms. Marquette advised that presently there are no school signs in the immediate area and awareness is needed. The school just reopened two years ago. The principal, Mr. Heron requested that typical school signage and markings be placed since there are approximately 300 students who walk to school. Also requests Eastor/ Vancouver acquire pavement signage (@ above) since it had been painted before and is now faded. It was moved and seconded (Comms. Evans/Simonetti) to make this an Action Item immediately. It was then moved and seconded (Comms. Mayer/Evans) to install Items O through @ as recommended by staff, and at Eastor/Vancouver to add "Slow School Crossing" painted in yellow on pavement with advance "School" signs. Unanimously approved by the Commission. Mr. Ho advised that these improvements will be installed before school reopens in September. INFORMATION ITEMS. None. FROM THE FLOOR.
