RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME
APPROVING CHANGES TO THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING BETWEEN
THE CITY OF BURLINGAME AND THE BURLINGAME POLICE OFFICERS
ASSOCIATION AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE
MEMORANDUM ON BEHALF OF THE CITY
RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Burlingame:
WHEREAS, the City of Burlingame and the Burlingame Police Officers Association have
met and conferred in good faith on the terms and conditions of employment as provided by State
law; and
WHEREAS, the City and the Association have reached agreement on certain changes to be
made to the existing terms and conditions of employment and memorandum of understanding
between the City and the Association; and
WHEREAS, the proposed changes are fair and in the best interests of the public and the
employees represented by the Association,
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS RESOLVED AND ORDERED:
1. The changes in existing salary and benefits of the employees represented by the
Burlingame Police Officers Association as contained in Exhibit A hereto are approved.
2. The City Manager is authorized and direct

MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING
This Memorandum of Understanding is entered into between the City of
Burlingame (City) and the Burlingame Police Officers Association (POA) following
meeting and conferring in good faith. It constitutes a full settlement of all issues
regarding wages, terms and conditions of employment.
The parties agree to changes in existing salary and benefits as follows:
1 . Term: Two years January 1, 1998 to December 31, 1999

Inspector Pay: Change from $230 monthly to 5% additional salary benefit
12/22/97.
Long -Term Disability Insurance: City will pay up to $20 per month per employee
toward this coverage 12/22/97.
7. Night Differential: • Swing shift (1600-2400 hrs) increase from 3% to 4%
additional salary benefit 12/22/97
• Graveyard shift (0001-0800 hrs) and Overlap shift
(1900-0300 hrs) increase from 5% to 6% additional
salary benefit 12/22/97
8. School Liaison Officer: 5% additional salary benefit 12/22/97
9. Tuition Reimbursement: City will reimburse employees up to $1,000 a year for
the cost of tuition, and up to $200 a year for the cost of books for courses taken
in pursuit of a Bachelors or Masters degree. Employees to be reimbursed upon
completion of said courses with a "C" grade or better 12/22/97.
10. FTO Pay: 5 hours at time and one half for every week of training 12/22/97.

1 1 . Acting Watch Commander Pay: Increase from 10% to 15% 12/22/97.
12. Deferred Compensation Incentive: City to match employee contribution to
maximum of $10 biweekly 12/22/97.
13. Medical Plan: Rates for 1998 and 1999 are known. Continue current monthly
maximum of $460. (1999 family rates for Aetna are $436; Kaiser $434.)
14. Dental Plan: Continue current Delta plan. Increase maximum per patient per
calendar year to $1,250.
15. Sick Leave Payout Upon Retirement: Increase to 25% of 180 days.
16. The City agrees not to alter, amend, or reduce any existing benefits during the
term of this agreement without meeting and conferring with POA.
This agreement is entered into this day of July, 1998.
