ORDINANCE AMENDING SIGN CODE PROVISIONS
CONCERNING CHANGEABLE COPY SIGNS
AND HOTEL FRONTAGE
The CITY COUNCIL of the CITY OF BURLINGAME does
hereby ordain as follows:
Section 1. Section 22.04.070 of the Burlingame
Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
"22.04.070 Changeable Copy Sign. 'Changeable copy
sign' is a sign any part of which moves or flashes, including
signs with movable or moving letters of any type."
Section 2. Section 22.08.030 of said code is hereby
amended to read as follows:
"22.08.030 Maintenance or alteration of existing signs.
A sign permit shall not be required for the maintenance of an
existing sign, such as repainting, which does not result in a
change or alteration in the size, shape, illumination, or text of
said sign. Any work other than such maintenance shall require a
sign permit. If such change or alteration is to a non -conforming
sign the provisions of this chapter shall apply as if it were a
new installation."
Section 3. Section 22, 20.030 is hereby amended to read
as follows:
"22. 20.030 Sign area - Secondary frontage.
(a) An additional seventy-five square feet of signage shall be
allowed on each secondary frontage, regardless of frontage length.

(b) Any frontage of a hotel upon San Francisco Bay
shall be considered a secondary frontage. Such frontage shall not
include any frontage upon Sanchez Lagoon, Sanchez Channel, or Anza
Lagoon."
Section 4. Chapter 22.29 is hereby added to said code 1,
to read as follows:
"Chapter 22.29
Changeable copy signs.
22.29.010 Exception required. An exception to this
chapter, pursuant to Section 22.06.110, shall be required for any
changeable copy sign, as defined by Section 22.04.070; provided,
however, the city planner may issue a sign permit for a sign which
otherwise meets the requirements of this chapter and only gives
public information, such as time, date, temperature, weather or
similar information."
Section 5.
Section 2'',.48.060 of
said code is
hereby
amended to read as follows:
"22.48.060
Moving signs. Any sign
is prohibited
if all
or part of it moves
or rotates."
Section 6.
Section 22.48.070 of
said code is
hereby
repealed.
Section 7. This ordinance shall be published as
required by law.
