ORDINANCE LIMITING EXTERIOR LIGHTING

The CITY COUNCIL of the CITY OF BURLINGAME does

hereby ordain as follows:

Section 1. Section 18.16.110 is hereby added to the
8
Burlingame Municipal Code to read as follows:

"18.16.110 Exterior lighting.
10
(a) Exterior lighting on all residential and commercial
11
properties shall be designed and located so that the cone of light
12
and/or direct glare from the lighting element is kept entirely on
13
the property or below the top of any fence, hedge or wall.
14
(b) On all residential properties exterior lighting
15
outlets and fixtures shall not be located more than nine (9) feet
16
above adjacent grade or required landing; walls or portions of
17
walls shall not be floodlit; only shielded light fixtures which
18
focus light downward shall be allowed, except for illuminated
19
street numbers required by the Fire Department.

(c) Variances to the provisions of this section may be
21
approved by the Planning Commission, pursuant to the provisions of
22
Chapter 25.16 of this code, except that notice of the application
23
for the variance shall only be given to property owners within
24
fifty feet.

(d) This section shall not apply to signs having a
26
permit pursuant to Title 22 of this code."

Section 2. This ordinance shall be published as
required by law.

do hereby certify that the foregoing ordinance was introduced at
a regular meeting of the City Council held on the 7th day of
DECEMBER f 1992, and adopted thereafter at a regular
meeting of the City Council held on the 4th day of JANUARY
1998,3 by the following vote:
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: HARRISON, KNIGHT, LEMBI, O'MAHONY,
PAGLI
