HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 1035ORDINANCE NO. 1035 AMENDING SECTION 15.04.030 AND ADDING SECTIONS 15.04.050 AND 15.04.060 TO THE BURLINGAME MUNICIPAL CODE CONCERN- ING WATER CONNECTIONS The City Council of the City of Burlingame does ORDAIN as follows: Section 1. Section 15.04.030 of the Burlingame Municipal Code is amended to read: "15.04.030 Installatio Protection Service. All fire protection services are to be installed by the owner at his expense with required encroachment per- mit and inspection by the City Public Works Department. An approved detector check valve of a type approved by the City Public Works Department is required on all fire services and is to be furnished by the owner. Each building with a fire protection service shall have its own separate fire connection with the city water main. to read: Section 2. Section 15.04.050 is added to said Code "15.04.050. Cross -Connections and Backflow. No water service connection to any premises will be installed or maintianed by the City unless the water supply is adequately protected in accordance with the requirements and regulations of Title 17 of the California Administrative Code and the Environmental Health Section of San Mateo County Department of Public Health and Welfare as determined by the Director of Public Works and/or the Environmental Health Section of San Mateo County Department of Public Health and Welfare. The property owner or consumer who is responsible for any protective device shall have each such device insF ected and tested in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Health Section of the San Mateo County Department of Public Health and Welfare. The City shall be furnished with a copy of the test re- sults. On each domestic service wher°eprotection is required, two properly valved protection devices - 1 - A backflow prevention device, which shall be of a type approved by the Director of Public Works and/or Environmental Health Section of the San Mateo Department of Public Health and Welfare is required on buildings three stories or more in height." to read: Section 2. Section 15.04.050 is added to said Code "15.04.050. Cross -Connections and Backflow. No water service connection to any premises will be installed or maintianed by the City unless the water supply is adequately protected in accordance with the requirements and regulations of Title 17 of the California Administrative Code and the Environmental Health Section of San Mateo County Department of Public Health and Welfare as determined by the Director of Public Works and/or the Environmental Health Section of San Mateo County Department of Public Health and Welfare. The property owner or consumer who is responsible for any protective device shall have each such device insF ected and tested in accordance with the requirements of the Environmental Health Section of the San Mateo County Department of Public Health and Welfare. On each domestic service wher°eprotection is required, two properly valved protection devices - 1 - shall be installed to insure a continuous supply of water to the premises while one unit is being tested. Failure to comply with any section of this chapter may be cause for the discontinuance of water service by the Director of Public Works and/or the San Mateo County Department of Public Health and Welfare. The Director of Public Works shall give notice in writing of any violations of this chapter to the property owner and consumer. If no action: is taken within ten days after such notice has been mailed or delivered in person, the Director of Public Works may discontinue delivery of water. Delivery of water shall not be resumed until a protective device has been .properly installed and approved as provided in this section. " Section 3. Section 15.04.060 is added to said Code to read: "15.04.060 Domestic and Fire Services Over 2 Inches Within Public Property. Design details, methods and materials for construction of water services over 2 inches in diameter within public property are not specified in this Code. Such details, methods and materials shall conform with specifications for the construc- tion of such work as are compiled by the City Engineer. Such specifications may be changed from time to time at the option of the City Engineer but such changes shall in no way affect the validity of regulations or requirements contained herein, Section 4.
