ORDINANCE AMENDING THE BURLINGAME
MUNICIPAL CODE BY REPEALING CHAPTERS
3.22 and 3.24 AND ADDING NEW CHAPTER
3.22, TRAFFIC, SAFETY AND PARKING
COMMISSION
The City Council of the City of Burlingame does ordain as
follows;
Section L Chapters 3.22 and 3.24 of the Burlingame
Municipal Code are hereby repealed,
Section 2. Chapter 3.22 of the Burlingame Municipal Code is '
hereby added, to read as follows;
"Chapter 3.22 TRAFFIC, SAFETY AND PARKING

COMMISSION
I 3.22.010 Organization - Terms of members - Compensation. '
There shall be a commission of traffic, safety and parking in
the city consisting of seven members, appointed by the mayor,
subject to confirmation of the city council; the members thereof
shall be qualified electors of the city, and their terra of office
l _ shall be for a period of three years and until their successors
are appointed and qualified. The members shall serve without
compensation, but all necessary expenses incurred by them while
,acting in their official capacities shall be paid by appropriate !
council action.
3.22. 020 Removal of appointed members - Filling vacancies,
i
Any member of the commission may be removed from office, for
cause, prior to the expiration of his term by the affirmative
vote of not less than three-fifths of all of the members of the
city council. Vacancies shall befilled by appointment by the
"mayor with the approval of the council, and shall be for the
unexpired portion of the term of office vacated.
3.22.030 Meetings - Officers. The commission shall
hold regular meetings at least once a month and such other
meetings as may be necessary or expedient. A. majority
of the commission shall constitute a quorum for the purpose
of transacting the business of the commission. The commis-
sion shall elect a chairman and secretary, both of whom shall
serve at the pleasure of the commission.
. 3. 22. 040 Record of proceedings kept by secretary - Filing.
The secretary of the commission shall keep a record of all
proceedings, resolutions, findings, determinations, and trans-
actians of the commission, which records shall be a public
record, and a copy of which record shall be filed with the
city clerk as clerk of Lhe city council.
3.22.050 powers and duties. The commission shall
have the power, and it shall be the duty of the commission, in i
a purely advisory capacity, to make recommendations to the
city council and to advise the council in matters pertaining
to traffic, safety and the parking of motor vehicles generally;
to the parking of motor vehicles on public streets and on public
parking lots and areas; to the establishment of metered zones
and the maintenance of free or metered parking spaces; to the
rates per hour per space to be paid for the metered parking
spaces; to the rental of off-street parking spaces; to thepermis-
Bible time for parking in any parking space; to the design
and improvement of, including lighting of, -or traffice flow on,
''any public streets or parking lot; to the posting of signs giving
I notice of parking regulations; to the landscaping of any parking
lot; and to the purchase and installation ofparking meters. "
Section 3. Notwithstanding any other provisions of this
ordinance, those persons who are the members of the Public Health and
Safety Commission or the Parking Commission of the City of Burlingame

at the time of the adoption of this ordinance shall he the first members
i
of the Traffic, Safety and Parking Commission. They may be reappointed
for additional terms of three years until suchtime as they resign, are
ail removed_ by the Council, or their positions otherwise become vacant. I

At such time as the number of members of the commission is reduced
', to seven memUers,
the
provisions of
Section 3.22.
010 shall
apply.

4.
This ordinance

published as
required
by
law.

and adopted thereafter at a regular meeting of the City Countil held on
