HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 17081 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 ORDINANCE NO. 1708 ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF BURLINGAME AMENDING SECTION 6.36.130 TO REDUCE THE LIABILITY INSURANCE LIMITS REQUIRED OF TAXICAB OPERATORS BECAUSE OF INSURANCE INDUSTRY PROBLEMS The City Council of the City of Burlingame ordains as follows: Section 1. The insurance industry is withdrawing coverage from taxicabs in California, and the costs of meeting the current City requirements for insurance coverage appear prohibitive. In order to sustain a viable taxicab industry, the limits can be reduced from $500,000 to $350,000. Section 2. Section 6.36.130 is amended to read as follows: 6.36.130 Insurance. Each owner shall carry liability insurance in the amount of not less than $350,000 per accident for bodily injury and property damage. All insurance shall name the city as additional insured; such insurance shall be primary to all others and shall contain a provision that it will not be canceled except upon thirty (3 0) days' written notice to the city. All insurance carriers shall be admitted in the State of California. Evidence of current insurance shall be on file with the city clerk at all times. Section 3. This ordinance shall be published as required by law and shall take effect thirty days after its adoption.
