ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF IDRLINGAME
ADDING CHAPTER 2.24 TO THE BURLINGAME MUNICIPAL CODE
TO AUTHORIZE THE USE OF MAILED BALLOTS
FOR ELECTIONS REQUIRED BY PROPOSITION 218
FOR FEES, CHARGES, AND ASSESSMENTS
The CITY COUNCIL of the CITY OF BURLINGAME ordains as follows:
Section 1. The use of mailed ballots for elections is authorized by Proposition 218 and
the California Elections Code for fees, charges, and assessments upon approval by the
City Council. The City Council wishes to use mailed ballots when it determines that an
election is best held by use of mailed ballots.
Section 2. Chapter 2.24 is added to read as follows:

The City Council may approve the use of mailed ballots for elections that are authorized
to use mailed ballots, including but not limited to elections under Proposition 218 for
fees, charges, and assessments. The City Council may adopt procedures for a mailed
ballot election. The City Council approves of the use of elections Code Section 9290 that
allows one copy of official matter to be mailed to a postal address where two or more
registered voters have the same surname and same address.
Section 3. This ordinance shall be published as required by law and shall take effect
thirty days after its adoption.

the foregoing ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of the City Council held on
the 3'd day of November, 2008, and adopted thereafter at a regular meeting of the City
Council held on the 1St day of December, 2008, by the following vote.
